A letter from Carl and Beau

Beau, who is blind, was featured as a top cat on CatChat. He struck it lucky a few weeks ago:
Dear Mary,
Thank you so much for your letter, thought I'd let you know how Beau is doing and send some photos.

I was amazed how quickly Beau found his feet after you left, he soon came out from his hidey hole under the kitchen worktop, had some food and began to explore. Initially the traffic noise spooked him a little but he soon became used to that.

Beau has become my little shadow really, he follows me from room to room, sits with me on the sofa and sleeps on the bed at night. He is happy so long as he can feel my presence. I'm pleased to say he has now mastered the staircase which was a major obstacle in the first fortnight and when I'm out at work he goes up there and sleeps.

Play time has become very important to Beau, his hunter instincts are very alive and he now has several toys which he stalks and chases. He loves to grab my hand and wrist and bite and chew me in a playful way. I think he must become frustrated being inside all of the time and he will now often lay on the floor and roll on his back, which is his sign to me that he wants to play.

His blindness never seems to hinder him in any way and he knows the flat inside out now. He is very curious and confident and I would be confident that if I ever were to own a house with a garden he would be allowed to wander supervised and enjoy the outside (probably for the first time).

Thank you so much for bringing Beau here, he really is a wonderful little character and he is well loved also by my girlfriend and my parents and all who come to visit. (He loves visitors by the way and so long as he knows I'm here as well is something of a showoff!)

Beau has been registered and checked over at the vets surgery in Meopham and has also been insured with Sainsbury's pet insurance, hopefully I'll never have to use it!

Thank you once again.

Kind regards,

Carl and Beau.

Freckle and Zulu - two kittens, only seven legs

Freckle & Zulu are brother and sister who were trapped when very tiny with their mother. All were living rough in a dirty lock up garage and Cats in Crisis volunteers were able to trap them late one night in January after many failed attempts. Their mum eventually had to be put to sleep as she had serious wounds to her upper body that just wouldn't heal.

Little Zulu had four legs but only three feet; he has recently had his crippled leg amputated and is doing much better as it doesn't get in the way any more.

Freckle and Zulu are very sweet, gentle, but extremely nervous little babes who need a very quiet indoor home with understanding owners.

Update, 15 May: We are thrilled to report that Freckle and Zulu have found a lovely new home.
